Lunch n Learn

hard at work on my "laptop", haha. note the intensity!
Tomorrow I'll be the featured presenter at a Lunch n Learn conference hosted by JCI CAPE BRETON.
I'm building the talk around the one area I feel I MOST qualify as an "expert": Making Something from Nothing.
All of my art and craftwork are born of modest beginnings, and my business structure itself is the same--start with nothing and ask, "how can I make this work?".
I will be sharing my most valued strategies, mantras, and insights pertaining to making a living doing what I love--how and why I got started, what sucesses and failures I've met, and where I plan on going from here!
In an effort to ensure your time is well invested, all of my content is specific (no namby-pamby universal truisms), and never before shared in a public forum--i'm spilling "secrets" and fielding any/all questions---come on out!!!
Teena Marie at Ross Creek

"What a curious feeling", by Teena Marie Fancey
With my wee brain a million miles away this past weekend, I didn't post this but meant to:
Teena Marie Fancey (my co-conspirator in Redux, our art show that ran at CBU in the spring) is showing "Redux, Redux" at The Ross Creek Centre for the Arts in Canning, Nova Scotia.
Teena has great ideas and shares my special love for relics of the past--Check out her art show!!!
Dragons and Dangerberries

yo, ain't I fierce?
This little warrior was what i opened my eyes to this morning...the David spied our spotted friend just ahead of the mower, and figured the discovery was worth waking me up for. Indeed-y! Having never seen a spotted salamander (only ever found the brown kind), I was positively giddy with delight--look at his widdle toes! and see how itty-bitty are his little biceps. aww, he just opened his mouth! Swoon.
After so much oo-ing and aw-ing and picture taking (stay still little buddy...look over here), I set him free in the hostas.

Despite the ever-darkening thunderheads, I threw caution to the wind and sped off to Rendell's U-Pick for some high-speed berry-pickin' (Must beat the rain...) What a rush! Booming, rumbling, crackling thunder with flashes of white/purple lightning set the stage for an ominous, menacing (and purely exhilirating) time in the field. Rain spilled forth just as I gathered my last berry--ha! Victory!
A perfect day off all for under 10 bucks. If you're in Cape Breton, the berry patch is THE place to be--the berries are seriously gorgeous right now, the scenery is fantastic, and the fruits of your labour are far superior to those in the grocery store, or even the roadside stands--nothing beats straight from the field, you can taste the sunshine.
Canada Day Highlights

Spent the holiday in Fourchu, Cape Breton enjoying life's simple pleasures---good food, good people, pretty things.
Oh, Canada!

Today I'm counting myself amongst a nation of lucky folk planning a day off to celebrate/honour (yes, with a "u") Canada.
Though I will be busy embracing every precious moment of a rare non-working day, I will not forget the ultimate privilege of calling this my home and native land...simply by being born in the right time/place, I've been privy to an abundance not known to %80 of the world's population.
Keep it real, Canada. Make it count. Everybody love each other! (and HAVE FUN!!!!)
