Obama, and a rebirth of wonder
Posted on Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Imparting hope and optimism and confidence and pride and a real sense of duty, reponsibility, HUMANITY!
Yes he has.
Already, before his term has even begun, Obama has achieved something remarkable. It has been opened inside many of us, the gears have been set in motion, a seed has sprouted--it can be felt in one's, dare I say it..."Soul".
Just want to do a journal entry here so that I might, in the future, look back and recall what I was up to on this historical day:
spent the day at the shop with the ever-delightful Teena-Marie Fancey.
As we get closer to finishing our body of work for Redux, I am discovering as well as rediscovering the many fuels that feed my soul. In no particular order, I am being moved by:
history (late 1800s)
poetry (Ferlinghetti, Kerouac, Cohen, T.S Eliot)
moustaches
birds
vintage circus imagery
colours: copper with patina, coffee brown with rich deep golden yellow, lime green (transparent) with anything/alone, fuschia with anything/alone.

Both Teena and I are keen on exploring symbolism, and hidden/underlying meanings. Researching themes and connections as they relate to our current artwork always opens up new doors and raises new questions, points us in new directions...leaves us with a sense of wonder, hope, and belonging as we try and make sense of the world we live in.

I am excited to share our found-object artworks with you--March 20th and the show is OPEN! It's called REDUX and will reside at CBU for one month.

"I am waiting for my case to come up
and I am waiting
for a rebirth of wonder
and I am waiting for someone
to really discover America
and wail
and I am waiting
for the discovery
Of a new symbolic western frontier
and I am waiting
for the American Eagle
to really spread its wings
and straighten up and fly right
and I am waiting for the Age of Anxiety
to drop dead
and I am waiting
for the war to be fought
which will make the world safe
for anarchy
and I am waiting for the final withering away
of all governments
and I am perpetually awaiting
a rebirth of wonder..."

bear with me?

I've had some requests to get some pictures UP, already! Thanks to the David, and also Shirley for the reminders, sorry to have to keep you waiting a little longer till I can get my camera repaired.
Oh, okay!
here's a pic taken after the first open-to-tha-public weekend (before my camera stopped working)--things have changed quite a bit since then--guess you'll have to come in and see!

p.s: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!! My resolution is the same as last year's: seek and establish Balance! Obviously, I need longer than a year to accomplish some goals, but I'm sticking with it! Best of luck to all of you fellow resolution-makers, I believe in you!
p.p.s: a bonus new year's gift from me to you--a powerful little "mantra" or "affirmation" that has helped me many times...I'm sharing it with anyone seeking that one word with the power to create great change/transformation...what's the one word? "B-E-G-I-N!" put that in your pocket and see what happens--magic!

"Don't let me change my heart,
Keep me set apart
From all the plans they do pursue.
And I, I don't mind the pain
Don't mind the driving rain
I know I will sustain
'Cause I believe in you."
-BOB DYLAN
