Mystery by Mail

Along with the expected joys of running a business (setting your own dress code, making your own schedule), many un-anticipated pleasures come with the job...
for example, prior to Lamoore Designs, I rarely received exciting (if any)mail, but now? We get letters. We get lots and lots of letters.
Another thing I never could have predicted is the steady stream of interesting folks my business would have me encounter: fellow beachcombers, packrats and nature lovers; fellow artists following their various passions; mentors offering a precious word of advice; a whole cast of generous, compassionate, wise characters appearing at an astonishing rate.
Today started off with a great example of the kind of joy you can never plan for...I received a box of West Coast Sea Urchin tests (shells) from a couple of kind souls who, if not for my business, would be completely unknown to me. My brother put us in touch after they met and he discovered their hobby (scuba diving).
Opening the parcel was a grand joy--from the tingly anticipation of the unknown to the satisfying examination of all the contents, I was, as a friend would put it, "all a-twitter"! Look at those amazing colors! Check out the patterns! How does a Sea Urchin KNOW?!?! Wow.
These will make some beautiful pendants and earrings. The photos you see don't show their purple and green tones to be as gorgeous as they really are. I hope to have some finished and for sale at the Upcoming Saltscapes Expo in Halifax (April).
Here's to happy accidents, chance encounters, and the inexplicable wonder of nature!
