Bright Lights, Big City
Posted on Saturday, August 18th, 2007

This country mouse is home after a non-stop, action-packed adventure in Vancouver, British Columbia- what a trip!
I've spent the last 2 weeks visiting with my bro and exploring unfamiliar (very) territory...so many brand new encounters in such a short time has me reeling a bit with all the "newness."
Now that I'm home, it's back to business in a big way, and I've already gleefully plunged right back in-I told you I love my job!!! The David was able to ship several orders in my absence, but he started taking backorders once stock ran out. Handing this responsibility over to someone else's care was a major leap for me, but I learned it's OK to let others help...The David did a stellar job and is now up for promotion.
Back to the vacation: I may write more later on my Vancouver odyssey, but for now, I'll try to be brief (I have over 500 photographs, more than any human attention span can handle, I'm sure.) hehe.
Howsabout I share with you my favorites, let's break it down by sensory type:

SEE...

my buddies at the aquarium;furry, slippery, gelatinous wonders, all of them!

giant trees, I'll miss you. (hehe,in case you're wondering, I don't wear a helmet as part of everyday attire...I borrowed my brother's ride for a breezy zip through Stanley Park.)

HEAR...

street performers you wanna DANCE to!

TOUCH...

Vancouverites love their dogs- big, little, we petted them all!

SMELL...

Big Cities aren't known for their outstanding olfactory qualities and Vancouver's no exception. However, I will choose to remember it by the more pleasant ones...I wish computer screens were equipped with scratch'n'sniff technology...

At $8.95 a bar, this Lemongrass soap was a splurge, but you can't put a price on happy nostrils, can you? I kept this heaven-scent luxury close at hand for emergency pick-me-ups-just one sniff-ah, all better!

mmmm...Cedar.

filled my lungs with some spicy mountain air.good stuff.

TASTE...

fess up time: this is my favorite category folks, I basically had a 14 day meal with pauses long enough to find my next eatery of choice, haha (I'm almost not kidding!).

#1 eats in vancouver: anything by my brother. Big Brother's been a Chef for a long time now, and he can make even a sandwich taste extra-special good.
Prawns on the barby, anyone?
Highlight of the trip was spending an evening helping out in his kitchen preparing a 3course meal for 40 guests- so cool.
We were also treated to a few "chef's choice" eateries:Rich took us to Vera's Burger Shack(for the best burgers ever), Go Fish(for the best fishnchips ever, plus delicious Salmon Tacones),and last but far from least (drum roll please)...Tanpopo's!! I finally got to try sushi and loved it! The meal at Tanpopo's was an unforgettable experience, with brother Rich navigating the menu and doing the ordering for us...we tried many different dishes, all new to me, all delicious. When we entered this restaurant, I smiled when I heard a customer exclaim, "Yay! Sushi!" Later on, from the table next to ours, a 3 year old shouted, "Yay! Sashimi!" How comforting to hear others expressing their joy for good food!

"I'm happy to be home (Still alive)
Happy to be home...
In the end, if you take care
You can be happy or unhappy anywhere"
