February's Gift

Recharging my batteries!

ice-a-plenty.

seaweed is pretty.
After 2 weeks of intense hermit-ing, I took a much-needed break from work today to bask in the sun. Yup, the sun! In February! In Cape Breton!
I noticed today that when the ocean is covered in drift ice, it creates the illusion of a living, breathing, lifeform...waves cause this giant icy mass to rise and fall, slowly, steadily, rythmically...kind of like the belly of a sleeping Old Man Winter.
Today, I took nothing from the shores, instead spending my time studying the "palette" of colors that surrounded me. It was a study in soft, muted shades...minimalist but profoundly beautiful. The soft beige of sand, cool grays of the rocks, stark white snow, punctuated by bursts here and there of color: gorgeous ice blue in the shadows, honey colored breaks of open water, luminescent olive and amber seaweeds:glorious The scene was magnified, I think, by the lack of other stimulation: it was dead quiet with everything frozen, no biting insects, no summertime smells.
How lucky we are to be so, what's the word..."encapsulated" by beauty...to have it so freely and abundantly scattered about us.
Halifax Recap

I'm stealing a minute to update the journal a bit. Last time, I wrote about my upcoming show, ACTS. I'm back home now and busy with all manner of things...ACTS was a tremendous success, exceeding my goal by quite a bit...I now have 30 stores slated to carry Finders Keepers in the Spring!!! Look for new retailers in PEI, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Ontario as well as across Nova Scotia- I will update the shop page in the coming months.
The picture above shows a few of my thrift-finds from the big city of Halifax...I picked up a practical and charming yellow wooden picture frame (solid), a nice red colored vinyl 45 (beauty!), and a 1950s era trio of our familiar pals Snap, Crackle and Pop (who's who? I don't know!).
Once again, the travelling was a lot of fun, but it's great to be back in my nest.
