and there is light
Posted on Monday, December 4th, 2006

my backstep, Cape Breton. tonight.
Just days ago I stood on a step ladder rigging up those lights, remarking on the beautiful "balmy" feeling in the air...feeling melancholic about green Christmases, and now Look! "What a difference a day makes" indeed!

This morning while searching the internet for a certain font, i came across one of those double-take, serendipitous finds seemingly placed upon my path with intent. An ocean-themed essay I'm working on is getting out of hand...too verbose, as usual...I find myself struggling in an attempt to be more concise/efficient...here's the idea:

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

Post-show recap
Posted on Friday, December 1st, 2006

me and the booth at last weekend's Victoria Park show... Mucho thanks to Mark Sparrow for the rad photo...it's the only one I have! If you look closely, you can spy a few of the special one-of-a-kind pieces...I was thrilled to see them go to good homes but wish I'd taken pics before saying goodbye...

To everyone who ordered Maple Leaf or Flower Necklaces:these were mailed out to you on Wednesday and Thursday of this week, so you should be seeing them by Monday at the latest.

Whew. In this ice-cream sundae that is my passion and livelihood, shows are really the cherry on top. Meeting the people who are digging what I'm doing is the absolute best...I'm content when I'm in my workshop creating, but i'm thrilled to see what it brings to other people. Gift-giving, for me, is a sort of "sacred" act, and it's neat to be a help to others who feel the same way. yeah. awesome.

What else is great about shows?
The post show "regroup"!
Everything that's been on the back burner for*EVER* can now be attended to. Long baths, good food, reading, socializing...all of this is good stuff but is heaven in the post-show wind-down!
I treated myself to another Sarah Beck pottery creation at the show (see pic below). The owl on the right hand side is Sarah's, on the left is a second-hand find...I am now on the hunt for more owls of similar size/shape, with the hopes of someday having the handsome-est owl troupe in all the land!

"I'm moving along just fine,
kicking around and taking my time-
doing the things that i always do.
I got a place to stay
a tiny little hideaway,
I planted a seed and i guess it grew."
