Winner Takes it all...
Posted on Wednesday, April 26th, 2006

Today's the day!
The winner of the Lamoore Designs Birthday Giveaway contest has been contacted, and I am now awaiting confirmation.

This first contest was a lot of fun, and I promise to organize more of them in the future...sign up for the mailing list to make sure you're in on the action! Most of my subscribers are customers, but it's not required...moral support counts too!

Thanks again to everyone who has supported me in any way over the past 2 years, and also to everyone who encouraged me before that!

I'm off to SALTSCAPESthis weekend, so if you're in the neighborhood, be sure to stop in and say hello!

I'd rather be lucky than smart."

Thank you for being a friend"

Halifax Show
Posted on Friday, April 14th, 2006

Very suddenly and unexpectedly, I have decided to exhibit at the Saltscapes East Coast Expo in Halifax's Exhibition Park at the end of this month. I went to this unique Fair (promoted by the nationally distributed magazine of the same name) last year and was blown away by the experience...there is a little bit of everything at this show which aims to give patrons a sampling of east coast sounds, tastes, experiences, and locally made products. A tightening of my purse strings meant I had reluctantly planned on staying home this year, but a most fortunate turn of events means I'll be there after all...If you can make it, come visit me at booth 125!! Click here to browse the list of exhibitors coming from each of the Atlantic Provinces.

Also, I just this week was invited to teach a spring workshop...on June 10th I'll be sharing my "Sandwich Method" of creating a painting with anyone who signs up for it at the Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design. I am planning a fun-filled day of guided exploration, so grab a paintbrush and join in!

In lieu of my standard "today's-blog-expressed-in-a-song-lyric", I leave you with a favorite quote fitting for spring, the most exciting and promising time of the year...

"If the sight of the blue skies fills you with joy,
if a blade of grass springing up in the fields
has power to move you,
if the simple things of nature
have a message that you understand,
rejoice, for your soul is alive."

-- Eleonora Duse

HAPPY BIRTHDAY (CONTEST)...
Posted on Saturday, April 1st, 2006

...To Lamoore Designs!!
This month, my baby business turns two, and on April 26th(the anniversary of the day I registered as an official entity back in 2004) I will be drawing a name at random from my mailing list to determine the winner of the Lamoore Birthday "Loot Bag".
If you place an order between now and the 26th, you get entered into the draw twice, and you also save $2 on your purchase!!.** Sign up for the mailing list for a chance to win this bag'o'goodies with stuff from all three of the Finders Keepers collections.
**offer valid only on purchases made directly from the artist.

Although I don't have children, I imagine child-rearing and this experience of "bringing up a business" both share a lot of common ground. For instance, the first two years in my "baby's" life saw me putting more stock into other people's advice (rather than trusting my gut), I played the "doting new mother" by spending more money and energy on frivolous things than I should have, and I didn't take enough time for myself away from "the baby". I think all of this is par for the course, though, and that these are perhaps typical responses you would find wherever you have passion at work.

That said, year three is an important developmental stage...time to get a little "tougher" with the parenting! Of course, I'll still talk way more than I should about little Lamoore's every mundane bit of progress, I'll still make the occasional splurge on new packaging, website additions, new materials, etc. that aren't really needed but seem essential to Lamoore's survival at the time.

I remain as excited as ever about the creation and growth of Lamoore Designs, it's fun to think of all the surprises that lay ahead. So far, the journey's been amazing with new lessons to learn and new people to meet at every turn...I look forward to sharing each milestone with my customers, without whom Lamoore Designs simply would not exist...THANK YOU!!

"There's a voice,
that keeps on calling me.
Down the road,
is where I'll always be.
Every stop I make,
I'll make a new friend..."
