"the More We Get Together!"--Preparing some of the snacks for the day, my Mom also concocted mushroom-shaped sugar cookies, chocolate truffles and fudge! There were cheese/meat/olive tasties, Robin's Coffee, pure blueberry juice and pb cookies made by Megan Samson.


Blindsided by a crowd we truly weren't anticipating, Megan and I do double duty at the check-out, serving at times 5-deep lineups! Thanks to all those patient enough to wait, we will have even more helpers next time! By the end of the day, our wee shop saw at least 100 people (many first-timer, non-Bras d'Orians) mingle with staff, musicians, as well as radio and television reporters from the CBC...weren't we cozy! :D


Starting around 2ish, shoppers were treated to the sounds of one of my fave locals: Robbie Simms! I loved seeing some toes tapping, and "almost" dancing happening inside the shop, sharing Robbie with some new ears was fun, and hearing his voice also helped keep me steady-she-goes...Thank you Robbie!!!
Following Robbie and carrying us through to 5ish were Troy Western, and Myke and the Mod Villains, all from Ontario, all real standup guys! If you hung around outside a bit, (ahem, Roddie, Connie, etc! *wink*), the musicians and I thank you! It is always nicer to play to a crowd!

Some of you heard the story of how the day *very* almost got completely unhitched, with my main helper (mom) getting called away just minutes before set-up. If not for a dear friend stepping in last-minute, I'm sure there would have been tears! Tears I say! With Meg's help (and the David's, and Connie's, and also my dad for doing a "loonie-run"), the day, though no doubt a lot more chaotic than had my orderly mother been there, was truly amazing.
Gathering in support of local business had everyone sharing favorites, and in a generally festive mood.
I know it wasn't easy for some of you to get there, and I hope you know how many leaps my heart did when you walked through the door. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting not only me, but all of my community...Vive La Bras d'Or!

Wild Blueberries grow in abundance on Bras d'Or's Blueberry Hill! (half the fun is getting a local to show you where it is!)

Great Blue Herons fish close to the shore over by the Caboose: be quiet, approach slowly and watch for hours as these majestic birds fill up.
Best time is dusk into night.

Spring Peepers are deafening just a short walk from Church Road...follow the path where the sidewalk ends/starts.

Mail your parcels at our Post office and meet the friendliest Postal workers anywhere...say Hi to Linda for me!

Starriest skies for miles: Point Aconi Lighthouse...great place for a date, family night, or even some quiet alone time. Head to the power plant for a beautiful beach with great swimming...I recommend snorkelling along to Black rock!

Pick your own Strawberries at Eddie Rendell's U-PICK. Perhaps my #1 fave thing about summer in Bras d'or, fresh from the field, like eating sunshine and rainbows! (like many Bras d'Or-ians, berrypicking was my first job!)

So happy the day was a success Laura! Wish I could have been there. I read the list and I've been to a lot of your favs! Robins coffee and the pumps at Ultramar are what get me to the studio many days.

My potatoe gun rules, and I can''t wait to cash in my dozen wings at the blue mist :)
